Volunteer Scotland AGM and Event 2023

Last week we hosted our 39th Annual General Meeting online with special guests, the Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice, Shirley-Anne Somerville MSP and internationally renowned speaker, Martin J Cowling (who hosted the interactive Net Zero section of the event).

We were delighted that the Cabinet Secretary could join us to discuss the Scottish Government’s commitment to volunteering and the Volunteering Action Plan. It was great to hear the Cabinet Secretary’s support of the Volunteer Charter and her commitment to sign up as a Charter Champion, both personally and on behalf of the Scottish Government.

"The Cabinet Secretary spoke passionately about the value of volunteering for Scotland and its communities especially during times of crisis. We are encouraged by the Scottish Government’s commitment to making positive change over the next decade. This commitment was exemplified on the day, through the Scottish Government becoming a Volunteer Charter Champion."

CEO Volunteer Scotland

The Volunteer Charter sets out the ten key principles which help to underpin good relations within a volunteering environment. It is open to any individual, group or organisation from any sector who either involve volunteers, or influence decisions on how volunteering is resourced or reflected in policy.
You can pledge support to the Volunteer Charter and sign up as a Charter Champion here.

Martin J Cowling hosted the Net Zero in Volunteering part of our event. Video of his presentation and related links available here.

To align with our AGM, we also published our Annual Report. This is a chance for Volunteer Scotland to collectively take stock and answer the question – how well are we doing? In it we’ve provided highlights from the year from each of our key functions. Read in full here.
