Volunteers’ Week 2026: Celebrating Millions Who Give Back Across the UK

Led by the UK Volunteering Forum, Volunteers’ Week is an annual opportunity to thank the millions of people across the UK who give their time, passion and skills to support others.  

Throughout the week, hundreds of events will take place both online and in person, from award ceremonies and celebration events to coffee mornings, open days and volunteer recruitment drives, bringing people together to recognise and appreciate volunteers in every corner of the country. 

Across the UK, young people are stepping forward to make a difference, gaining valuable skills, confidence and experience while contributing to causes they care about.  

This year, #iWill Ambassadors are playing an important role in supporting Volunteers’ Week activity, helping to engage communities and champion the benefits of youth social action. Their involvement highlights the importance of creating opportunities for young people to participate and lead, ensuring the future of volunteering remains strong and inclusive. 

Alan Stevenson, CEO Volunteer Scotland, lead UK partner on the campaign said:  

“Volunteers are at the heart of communities across Scotland, quietly making an extraordinary difference every single day. Through their compassion, generosity and commitment, they bring people together, strengthen connections and create hope where it’s needed most. Volunteers’ Week is a powerful moment to recognise and celebrate these contributions, but also to inspire others to get involved. Because when people come together to give their time and care for one another, we don’t just change lives we build a brighter, more connected Scotland for everyone.” 

Hilary McGrady, Director General at National Trust, who are supporting this year’s Volunteers’ Week, said: 

“I’m absolutely delighted that we are supporting this year’s Volunteers’ Week. We have over 44,000 volunteers in the Trust, and they do such amazing work for us – we could not do our job without them. Volunteers’ Week gives an opportunity to shine a light on the incredible contribution volunteers make. I also know just how much volunteering means to them and how much they get in return – new friendships, a sense of community, and a genuine sense of giving something back.  

To every volunteer out there, thank you for all that you do, it’s a joy to work with you. I would like to think that Volunteers’ Week will encourage ever more volunteers to want to take part, not just in the National Trust, but in the many organisations out there with opportunities to volunteer.” 

As well as offering a crucial opportunity to express gratitude, the week also aims to encourage more people to give volunteering a go, showcasing the positive impact it has on individuals, communities and wider society.
