Update to the Code of Practice
A new version of the Code of Practice has recently been introduced.
This is the first amendment to the Code of Practice since 2011. The changes made reflect the changes that have been made to the disclosure process over the course of the last decade.
As well as updating the Code, the amended version also provides support for the changes that will be made by the implementation of the Disclosure (Scotland) Act.
What is the Code of Practice?
The Code of Practice is there to provide information, advice, guidance and instructions to those that are accessing disclosure checks. It should be used to determine how you operate within the disclosure checking process and all organisations and signatories enrolled with VSDS must follow the Code of Practice.
The Code is intended to:
- ensure that disclosure information is used properly and lawfully.
- provide assurance to those individuals applying a disclosure request that disclosure information will be used properly and lawfully.
- ensure that disclosure information is handled and stored appropriately by registered persons and is kept for only as long as necessary for the purpose it was requested and thereafter disposed of securely.
