Learning Byte Videos

These learning byte videos were reviewed in May 2026 and confirm current and accurate information.

Duty to Refer Process

This video provides important information on your legal ‘Duty to Refer’ obligation. We cover the criteria to meet, when and how to make a referral, to help protect vulnerable groups.

Sharing Disclosure Information

This video provides an overview of how groups can access an individual’s disclosure information.

Legal Requirements

This video provides an overview of the disclosure areas that you as a group working with vulnerable people are legally required to meet.

Removable Convictions

This video provides an overview of the removable conviction process—specifically when an applicant has the option to request that certain convictions be removed from their record.

5 Year Membership

This video explains the key changes from the lifetime PVG membership model to a five-year membership, what these changes mean in practice, and how existing members will transition through a phased approach.

In person Training

When you book our training you will receive an email confirmation. (Please remember to check your junk/spam folders). This email will also include the option to view and manage your order online. If, for any reason, you can no longer attend the course you have booked you can cancel your place using this option. Alternatively, you can email disclosures@volunteerscotland.org.uk to cancel your place.

A Complete Guide to PVG & Your Signatory Role

Spaces available: 12 spaces per session
About: A session designed to support all Lead and Additional signatories, whether you are new to the role, about to step into the role or are interested in finding out more about what the role of being a signatory involves. This session covers all aspects of the PVG Scheme and will leave you with the information required to process PVG scheme applications for your organisation.

Online Training

We currently offer three online training sessions designed to support you in your role as a signatory. We strongly recommend booking all three courses, as each session builds on the previous one and will help you understand your legal responsibilities when processing PVG scheme disclosures. To gain the full benefit, please book the sessions in the order outlined.

About: The Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020 introduces ‘regulated roles’ to define whether PVG scheme membership is required when working with children and/or protected adults. This replaces and expands on the previous definition of regulated work. The session covers regulated roles with children and protected adults – who can join the scheme?, your legal requirements, regulated roles and exceptions, key changes and more.
