About Ride the Night Edinburgh 2019 - Women V Cancer
Hundreds of Ride the Night Edinburgh women will unite to cycle 100km through this magical city at night to support three amazing women’s cancer charities: Breast Cancer Care, Ovarian Cancer Action and Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust. The ride will follow a circular route and pass many of Edinburgh's historic landmarks, including the Royal Yacht Britannia, Arthur's Seat, Edinburgh Castle and many more. Be part of something incredible and join our team of volunteers to help hundreds of incredibly inspiring women from all cycles of life complete the challenge!
Volunteer Job - Ride Angels:
Your role throughout the night will be to support and encourage the riders around the route. You will be positioned amongst a group of riders and will be wearing a ‘Ride Angel’ Hi-Vis vest so the riders will be able to spot you while cycling. You have no responsibilities in terms of first aid; your role is to give the riders moral and practical support while out on the course. IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT YOU CAN REPAIR AND CHANGE A PUNCTURE - this is so you can help women throughout the course, as the mechanical support will prioritise major mechanical faults over punctures. You will need to arrive between 6PM-8PM, you will register with the Ride Arc Angel, here you will receive information about the start wave you will be in, your hi-vis and a food voucher. Everyone will have a briefing at 8.00pm with the Ride Director, ready to set off between 9.00pm and 11pm.There is specific volunteer parking available and you will be sent a parking voucher for the volunteer parking before the ride which you will need to print off and show to the car parking attendants when arriving.
Volunteer Job - Ride Makers (check in/start line):
Your role throughout the night is to support the safety and enjoyment of the event. Saturday Evening from 6pm you will be involved in welcoming and helping direct women to registration, handing out Hi-Vis and food vouchers at check in. You will be part of the start line team in helping control and direct cyclists to the start. You will also ensure everyone lining up to start has a helmet on ready to go and remind them to save their light batteries whilst queueing.
Volunteer Job - Ride Makers (Finish line):
Your role will offer support through encouragement at the finish line, welcoming participants back and keeping spirits high. You will also help give out and reward the participants with a medal. You will get a rest period between 11pm - 1am and receive a breakfast voucher with this role to get yourself a hot breakfast roll and hot drink during or after your shift.
Volunteer Job - Feed Station Volunteer:
The feed station volunteers will assist the coordinator on each station by making it clear and visible to the participants whilst offering continued encouragement throughout. You will monitor food and drink supplies and ensure they are easily accessible, maintaining participant hydration and energy levels. Once the final participant has been through you will support the clear down process of the feed station.
