About Music in Hospitals & Care Scotland

Music in Hospitals & Care is a national charity founded in 1948 to benefit people of all ages, with an illness or a disability in healthcare, through the provision of high quality, therapeutic music sessions. We work across the healthcare spectrum, in hospitals, hospices, care homes, special needs schools, clinics, mental health units and community outreach venues. We work with partners such as Age UK, Alzheimer’s Society, MIND, NHS Trusts and many more.

Our musicians are highly skilled professionals selected for their engagement skills as well as their excellent musicianship. They encourage and enable participation during these sessions through singing along, clapping, chatting, toe tapping, playing percussion, moving and dancing.

The live music sessions are carefully thought out in terms of repertoire and delivery, ensuring they are appropriate to the audience - they are always entirely focused on the wellbeing of the participants.

Annually MiHC, as a UK-wide organisation, reaches 130,000 people through the delivery of 5,000 live music performances. Our bank of 450 high-quality freelance musicians have delighted audiences from 5 months to 101 years old.
