Volunteers' Week 2022: A time to say Thank You
29 March 2022
Volunteers' Week campaign is back across the UK for it's 38th year. The annual campaign, that runs every year from the 1st - 7th June, returns with the simple theme and focus of 'Thank You' to all volunteers.
As we know, volunteers are always active at the heart of every UK community, even more so over the last few difficult years, so this Volunteers’ Week we want you to join us again in taking time to thank volunteers for all they contribute to our local communities, the voluntary sector and society as a whole.
"Volunteers’ Week is a time to thank every volunteer across the UK. Volunteers improve our society through countless contributions each year and at time of crisis, they make our services more resilient. Within every local community, volunteering takes place formally, through the incredible work of organisations and groups but also informally through acts of kindness, between individuals (who are not friends and family). We must recognise the wide spectrum of volunteering. As we emerge from the pandemic and return, we should still be mindful of those who’ve been unable to volunteer, or volunteer as regularly, and be especially mindful of those who may still be anxious about resuming. Thank you all, for your volunteering."
- Alan Stevenson, Volunteer Scotland CEO
The Volunteers' Week campaign is led by a representative organisation in each of the four nations. Volunteer Scotland lead the campaign in Scotland, WCVA in Wales, Volunteer Now in Ireland and NCVO in England.
In 2017 a sub-group was formed in Scotland with a range of national and locally based organisations to further develop and promote the campaign. The sub-group currently includes Befriending Networks, Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland, Eden Project Communities, Home Start Scotland, Marie Curie, NHS Healthcare Improvement Scotland, Quarriers, SCVO, TSI Moray, Volunteer Scotland and YouthLink Scotland.
The Volunters' Week Scot website provides suggested ways to get involved this year, from sharing volunteer stories to hosting events, as well as links to all the new and updated for 2022 Volunteers' Week Resources. There is no better time to get planning and get involved!
