Volunteer Scotland CEO Announcement
18 October 2021
As you know, George Thomson retired as CEO in March of this year after 19 years in charge.
Since then, the role has been filled on an interim basis, by Alan Stevenson. Following a national recruitment process and a shortlisting exercise, final candidate interviews took place in late September. Volunteer Scotland Board of Directors are pleased to announce that Alan Stevenson has been selected as CEO of Volunteer Scotland on a permanent basis. Alan will start in his new role on the 18th October, 2021.
A few words from our CEO, Alan Stevenson
"It gives me great pleasure to take on this exciting role. I can’t think of a better time to be at the centre of volunteering in Scotland; working with talented and dedicated individuals across a diverse range of stakeholders, all invested in achieving our collective ambition of Volunteering For All.
There is an inherent responsibility within my remit to ensure that ‘we’ truly listen to volunteers and put their experience at the centre of everything we do. I’m conscious that the pandemic has made many reconsider the value of volunteering. Acknowledging a truth we’ve known for many years; volunteering weaves into most aspects of our society and provides a multitude of benefits for individuals and communities. It can shape our view on what a society can become.
For volunteering to reach its full potential (a volunteering where anyone can volunteer, and where we think of volunteering regularly and throughout our lives) will require an enormous amount of collaborative effort, over the next years.
I can’t think of a more exciting challenge to be involved in, a challenge that will bring out the best in all of us."
