General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

SCVO is running an initiative to help charities and voluntary organisations understand more about data protection and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) due to come into force in the UK on 25 May 2018.

If you hold and process information about your clients, employees or suppliers, you are legally obliged to protect that information under the 1998 Data Protection Act.

Many of the GDPR’s main concepts and principles are much the same as those in the current Data Protection Act, however GDPR goes further in a number of areas.

The ICO provide a range of resources to help organisations prepare for GDPR. A starting point is the 12 Steps Guide, which describes the key areas to consider.
