A message from our CEO
2 February 2021
After 19 years as Chief Executive of Volunteer Scotland I’ve decided to retire at the end of March 2021.
Thank you for the great privilege of connecting with you in our common cause to bring wellbeing through volunteering, and to the wonderful team at Volunteer Scotland.
Every meeting is a parting, and you could say that every job is a parting too. It feels good to be leaving in such positive terms, with so many strengths in volunteering and Volunteer Scotland. We’re in good shape to face the current challenges and to help bring about the Scottish Government’s shared and excellent framework ‘Volunteering for All’.
Developing volunteering is in my DNA, and whilst I’m parting as Chief Executive I’m continuing to assist in the ambitious bid to bring the IAVE World Volunteer Conference 2023 to Scotland, and to celebrate with volunteers from Scotland and across the globe. Sadly, my predecessor Liz Burns died early last year, and we want to honour her memory with a special lecture at the World Volunteer Conference. She was the founding figure of Volunteer Development Scotland, and I will forever be grateful to her and everyone I’ve participated with in our organisation's journey. I wish whoever inherits my role every success and your full support, in the ever changing environment and challenges of renewal. What potential!
All the best,
