Radio Lollipop Volunteer, Aswad
7 November 2016
I've been a volunteer at Radio Lollipop since May of this year & it has been one of the best experience that I've had in a long time.
Radio Lollipop is an international charity organisation founded in 1979 to provide care, comfort, play and entertainment for children and young people, primarily in hospitals. The service to children and young people is provided entirely by Volunteers who have been especially selected, and trained to make a child's stay in hospital more fun and less frightening.
I help out regularly on a Monday evenings after work at the Royal Hospital for Children & deliver a smile to the children at the wards who might be there for a few days or even a couple of months. It can be a struggle to find children who want to take part in the many activities that we offer on a Monday as the cinema is on that day & most of them tend to be there.
This opportunity in helping children at the hospital and making their experience more pleasant and also help me deal with my own difficulties and hardship that I've faced in the past year with the loss of my father. It has made me feel more positive in helping others & made me realise that everyone goes through the same pain & suffering from time to time.
It has put a smile on my face helping children at the hospital & has made me feel more optimistic about the future.
