About Opportunity

Sexting, cyberbullying, FOMO - these are just some of the issues the Young Scot 5Rights Youth Commission explored in their 15-month investigation. Their report, ‘Our Digital Rights’, was launched in May 2017 and puts forward 20 recommendations they developed for the Scottish Government on how Scotland can realise their rights in the digital world. The Youth Commission is now looking for 15 young people aged 11-15 from across Scotland, to join them in the new Young Scot 5Rights Youth Leadership Group. The new group will spend the next 12 months investigating how some of their recommendations can be implemented, and create a real impact on how young people’s rights are supported in the digital world Do you want to create a better, more respectful digital world for children and young people? Are you perhaps - • Excited about supporting others, especially in learning? • Interested in engaging with businesses and supporting them to be more ethical around their activities in the digital world? • Passionate about young people’s rights, and can be creative and innovative in raising awareness? • Buzzing with ideas about how new tech can be developed with young people’s rights at heart? • A budding event designer – and love gathering people to celebrate? If it’s a yes from you to any of the above, and you are between 11 and 15 – join us in the 5Rights Youth Leadership Group! About Young Scot

Young Scot is the National Youth Information Agency, providing young people aged 12-26 with a mixture of information, ideas and incentives to help them become active, informed and confident citizens. Young Scot aims to provide young people with a mixture of information,ideas and opportunities to: - promote the development and provsion of education and in particular social education and health education for young people. - enable them to make informed decisions and choices about their lives. - turn their ideas into action. - take advantage of the opportunities available to them in scotland and the rest of europe. - enable them to have the knowledge and confidence to become active citizens in their communities.

Skills & Experience

• No formal qualification required! • Interest in the issues surrounding young people, Scotland and your digital world • Able to work within a group • Have the flexibility, commitment and willingness to travel across Scotland throughout 2017-2018
