VSDS responds to current media

1 March 2017

In the light of recent press coverage regarding historical abuse allegations, Volunteer Scotland Disclosure Services (VSDS) wish to remind you of the support and guidance available for the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) process, your recruitment of volunteers and paid staff and in relation to the safeguarding of vulnerable groups.

Here are some measures to consider:

  • Regular submissions of PVG applications to VSDS

  • You will only be notified of amendments to an individual's PVG record if an individual’s status changes to barred or to being under consideration for listing – do your policies reflect this?  Do you have a re-checking policy?

  • Safeguarding training from appropriate bodies

  • Training for signatories in relation to interpreting information of disclosures

We are also offering sessions on PVG best practice quarterly.  If this is something you would be interested in book your place here.

If you have any questions, queries or require any support please telephone 01786 849777 or email disclosures@volunteerscotland.org.uk
