Volunteers Week at Holyrood
8 June 2015
Some of our My Volunteer Account holders met MSPs on 4th June at Holyrood.
They caught up with them on the steps of the Garden lobby (within the Scottish Parliament) as they emerged after parliamentary questions - our photographer was on-hand to capture the moment.
One of the photo calls asked all of the volunteers to put their hands up; it was encouraging to see that our volunteers were not alone in raising their hands!
Ultimately, this wasn’t just about a photo opportunity, recognising the contribution of volunteers is vitally important to progressing volunteer rights and ensuring that volunteering is rightfully integrated into a range of policy areas (volunteering touches most areas of society after all). With this in mind, our volunteers made sure to quiz Alex Neil, the Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice, Communities and Pensioners' Rights on a range of issues including Welfare Reform and the need for Food Banks.
Big thanks to the volunteers that attended - Ian Shillinglaw, Hannah Beaton, Susan Morrison, Mulhim Sharif, Fiona MacFarlane, Rhona Brown, Angelica Montenegro, Morag Kylesku, Pat Hiddleston, Nicholas Keene and Morag Mckinlay.
Volunteers' Week ran from the 1st to the 7th of June, inclusive. The campaign used the #ivolunteer and #volunteersweek hashtags but remember a volunteer is for life not just volunteers week!
