Stirling's Festival of Volunteering
24 July 2017
We're delighted to be one of eight organisations helping to bring the Festival of Volunteering 2017 to Stirling.
The Festival of Volunteering was initially a concept developed by Volunteer Scotland then taken up by the Festival Steering Group and a range of local organisations around Stirling.
As the idea for the Festival grew, the Steering Group set themselves an exciting challenge, along with our partners and the good people of Stirling:
To see over half of Stirling’s citizens enjoy active volunteering and for Stirling to become the nation’s first volunteering city.
We know already that 43% of people in Stirling volunteer, already higher the national average of 29%– but we think we can do better. We know volunteering brings real benefit to individual’s health and wellbeing, community cohesion and can add real values to public services. We are calling the people of Stirling, the public sector, employers, community groups, schools, clubs, students, shops, charities and individuals to come together, join us and join in.
We asked local organisations and charities to 'take over' The Festival Shop in the heart of Stirling (for free) and promote and showcase their volunteering, throughout July and August. So far we’ve had great response from those who have taken over the shop as well as those who have visited, but there’s still a month to go so make sure you ‘pop’ in soon.
Keep an eye out on the Festival website and Facebook page for updates on the various events happening during the Festival, 21st - 27th September - everything from Stirling Soup, to a bike treasure hunt, to a Family Day in King's park with storytelling, arts, and sports demonstrations, there is something for everyone.
